This morning I woke our family up bright and early for a sunrise hike for photos with Emma Rose. I can honestly say my 3 boys and my husband were not thrilled with this idea, but got up and dressed with minimal resistance. I wish I could write and tell you how much my children love the outdoors and hiking, and nature, but then I would be lying. My kids are not fond of outdoor activities , they would much rather veg out on some piece of electronics than go outside, in fact we have to match excersize with screen time. 30 minutes of bike riding gets them 30 minutes of electronics. Please tell me I am not alone.
When we pulled up Ben took his shoes off, refused his coat, and made me carry him, Will would not take off his obnoxiously blue coat, and Lucas was a snotty mess, but we forged up the hill with Emma in the lead. She was so sweet and offered to carry Lucas, coats or bags, she was so understanding of all the major personalities of our family. We are not the easiest group to photograph.
Once we reached the plateau the wind picked up and the clouds covered the sunrise, but Emma kept shooting, no matter how defiant the boys got or their lack of smiles, she stayed positive and kept documenting. After a few minutes the sun started to break from the clouds and warmed us all up. Once we felt that sun we all perked up and gave Emma a few extra minutes of cooperation. We took the boys to breakfast to warm them up and by the time we got home Emma had sent me some sneak peeks and the photos she sent me are so perfectly us, every sideways glance, half smile, silly gesture, and scowl, will all be treasured for a lifetime.
